I have been intending to write

to you for some time in connection

SIR W. PEEL, K.C.M.G.,K.B.E.

with the despatches which are periodically

sent to us by your Government relative

to the situation in China, copies of

which are sent to Canton, Peking and

Singapore. The last of these despatches

that I have seen is one dated 6th

August, 1930 and signed by you.

The reason I am writing is that

I notice that occasionally these

despatches deal almost entirely with the

situation in China, and are not directly

concerned with any effect this situation

has on Hong Kong, which is all we are

concerned with, and I think there have

been occasions in the past when the Foreign

Office and the Minister at Peking have been

inclined to take the view that we are

rather butting into their business, and
